11:30-13:00 Workshop – 20-25 Trainees in Groups of 5-6
Data for wind, solar and waves from Crete and likely other places will be provided, so that trainees are able to design an energy island. The trainees will be divided into 6 groups and each group should work independently from the others. The output per group should be the following: best location for energy island. The objective functions are, maximum energy, the power output should be significantly smooth and the cost per Watt should be as low as possible. Conceptual design of the energy island. How to integrate the different energy sources together. How to connect the power output to the national grid. Advantages of the energy island over onshore one (based on literature review) The issues that need investigations to provide improvements (based on literature review). Groups will draft a paper for publication with the next 3-6 months, if possible.
